Bath is the perfect destination for a weekend break. Two days gives you enough time to explore the city’s main attractions, enjoy its excellent restaurants and experience its beautiful Georgian streets without feeling rushed. Here’s a suggested itinerary that covers the highlights while leaving plenty of time to enjoy the city at your own pace.
Day One: Bath’s Must-See Attractions
Begin your weekend at the Roman Baths, one of the finest Roman sites in northern Europe and one of Bath’s most famous attractions. Audio guides are included with admission and are available in 13 languages, including a children’s version narrated by Michael Rosen. Adult tickets start from £20 when booked online in advance, saving £2 compared with buying on the day. Allow around 90 minutes to two hours for your visit.
From the Roman Baths, take a short walk to Bath Abbey. The Abbey is an outstanding example of Perpendicular Gothic architecture, featuring remarkable fan-vaulted ceilings and beautiful medieval stained glass. Entry is by suggested donation.
After lunch, unwind at Thermae Bath Spa. A two-hour spa session includes access to the rooftop pool, the Minerva Bath and the Wellness Suite. Weekend sessions are popular, so booking in advance is recommended. Please note that Thermae Bath Spa is for guests aged 16 and over.
In the evening, discover Bath’s independent dining scene. Milsom Street, Walcot Street and the Paragon are home to an excellent selection of restaurants, offering everything from casual dining to fine cuisine.
Day Two: Discover Georgian Bath
Sunday morning is an ideal time to join one of Bath’s free walking tours. Led by the Mayor’s Corps of Honorary Guides, the tours explore landmarks including the Royal Crescent, the Circus, Pulteney Bridge and the Assembly Rooms. They usually last around two hours and depart from outside the Pump Room. Check the Visit Bath website for current departure times before your visit.
After the tour, continue to the Royal Crescent and the Circus. The Royal Crescent is one of Britain’s finest examples of Georgian architecture, with 30 elegant townhouses arranged in a sweeping curve. No. 1 Royal Crescent is open to visitors and offers an authentic glimpse into Georgian life.
Later, cross Pulteney Bridge, one of the few bridges in the world lined with shops, before strolling along Great Pulteney Street, one of Bath’s grandest Georgian avenues. At the far end, Sydney Gardens provides a peaceful place to relax before returning to the city centre.
Finish your weekend with afternoon tea at the Pump Room. Located beside the Roman Baths, this elegant Georgian venue is accompanied by live classical music from the resident pianist or the Pump Room Trio, creating a memorable end to your stay.
