Thermae Bath Spa is Britain’s only natural thermal spa, and guests staying at Westgate Apartments are just 100 yards from the entrance. If you’re planning a visit to Bath, spending a few hours in the city’s famous thermal waters is an experience not to be missed. Here’s everything you need to know before you go.
What Is Thermae Bath Spa?
Thermae Bath Spa opened in its current form in 2006 on the site of Bath’s historic spa quarter. The spa is supplied by the same natural mineral-rich hot springs used by the Romans more than 2,000 years ago. The water rises from underground at around 45°C before being cooled to between 33.5°C and 35.5°C for bathing, creating the perfect temperature for relaxation.
In 2025, Thermae Bath Spa was named Best City Spa at the Good Spa Guide Awards.
What’s Included?
A standard spa session includes:
- Full access to the 35.5°C Minerva Bath, featuring massage jets, a central whirlpool and a relaxing river flow.
- Access to the rooftop open-air pool with panoramic views across Bath.
- Entry to the Wellness Suite, which includes an infrared sauna, Georgian steam room, Roman steam room, Celestial Relaxation Room and Ice Chamber.
- A robe, towel and locker included with your admission.

Opening Times
The New Royal Bath is open daily from 9:00am until 9:30pm, with the pools and Wellness Suite closing at 9:00pm. Thermae Bath Spa is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Things to Know Before You Visit
- Thermae Bath Spa is for guests aged 16 and over.
- Mobile phones and cameras are not permitted inside the spa. Personal belongings are stored securely in your locker during your visit.
- Advance booking is highly recommended, especially at weekends and during busy periods.
- Bring comfortable clothing to change into after your session. The Springs Café serves light meals and refreshments.
- Flip-flops are not included with standard admission, so either bring your own or purchase a pair on arrival.
Getting There from Hiding Space
Westgate Apartments is just 100 yards from Thermae Bath Spa, making it around a two-minute walk. Guests staying at Trim Street can reach the spa in approximately 10 minutes on foot. Both properties offer an excellent base for anyone planning a relaxing spa break in Bath.
